“A Potter’s Tale” Reviews
This story has more twists and turns than a mountain stream. it takes readers across space and time on a wild ride with both heroes and villains that arrive when you least expect them. It’s a great “who dun it” that hides a number of moral and ethical issues in plain sight.
I have nothing to add to observations of the other reviewers, but I do have some advice. Buy two copies of the first edition, one to read and one to include in your estate. Congratulations to David Davis. The sweep of his mind, his reach and wisdom are unique.
Twists and turns through a wide range of scenarios. If you don’t read it in one sitting, you’ll be wondering what comes next until you start reading it again. I carried it with me until I finished it, and told as many friends as I could. Great read!
Everything I thought was true is true. And this book proves it.
SciFi/Fantasy with mystery and murder! Throw in some conspiracy and adventure and you have a bit of an idea what A Potter’s tale is like. It’s a journey to find the truth and solve a mystery.
Dan Brown meets Umberto Eco….
The book’s plot is grounded in history, but drips with interlocking conspiracy theories and sci-fi improbabilities….(the author) manages to weave together the mysteries of the ancient Mayan calendar with global warming, the Kennedy assassination, a secret Vatican society, the big bang theory (not the TV show), master decoder Alan Turing, and former vice-president Dick Cheney. It’s loads of fun.
Truly proud to have published this novel, and can’t wait to see it as a film. You won’t be disappointed!
A Potter’s Tale challenges readers with mysteries from the past, the brilliance of a present-day life snuffed out too soon, and long held secrets (of) the universe. Davis has added enough twists and left enough imaginative breadcrumbs along the way the sci-fi buffs, history buffs and lovers of all things mysterious will each find a reason to turn page after page.
“The Last Immortal” Reviews
The author has woven times and places into a great mystery where his characters come to life in the mind’s eye by his spot-on descriptions. I have now read both novels by Dr. Davis and hope a third is on the horizon. My suggestion: get the book! It is a read you can’t put down.
An exciting adventure with lots of color in lots of locales. Characters come to life with rich descriptions of their character. The reader is transported across time and space with common threads tying them all together. Fasten your seat belt – it’s quite a ride!
An engaging read that was a lot of fun. The ending was satisfying, but I found myself sorry that i couldn’t keep reading intriguingly. There were hints that more is on the way in the Noah series. Looking forward to that!
The Last Immortal is a riveting journey that takes you from Pompeii through Rio, Venice, Virginia, Egypt, France and even Dubai! It is so thrilling I couldn’t put the book down. It is a fascinating premise that will have you wondering if it really happened. It’s the best book I’ve read in a long time.
A very exciting science fiction story that has outstanding character development; a time traveling slant; wonderful recognizable locations; and an original plot with a requisite exciting and twisted ending.
Preliminary Praise for “Clandestine” – the true story of a medical school in the Warsaw Ghetto
a vivid description of the tension and apprehension of the ghetto
heart-wrenching
a Masterpiece. A triumph. A tour de force.
Have a box of Kleenex with you when you’re reading this. I’m not kidding.
On January 27th each year, a streetcar makes its way around Warsaw, the Polish capital.
It was like a scene out of Poe’s “The Telltale Heart.” The ringing seemed to come from a pile of boxes stashed at the front door of our place in Washington, D.C.
There are rashes of it cooking in the morning, and the smell fills the little parking lot of the church where I spend my Saturday mornings. Yes, it’s definitely the bacon.
The Writers in Paradise had already been supporting and encouraging each other for about two years when a 2020 COVID-19 lockdown brought them a need to find inspiration.

Dave was a family physician in Ontario, Canada for nearly forty years, from 1970-2008. For much of that time, he was active in continuing education at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, Ontario; responsible for continuing education at McMaster University’s innovative Faculty of Health Sciences; associate dean, continuing education, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto; and chairman of Ontario’s Guidelines Advisory Committee. In 2008, Dave became a senior leader at the Association of American Medical Colleges, in Washington, DC. In the field of medical education, he’s published over 200 peer-reviewed papers, abstracts, book chapters, and three major books on continuing education.
It’s his non-medical writing however that is featured on this website and which has occupied his thinking for the last decade. In a kinda-retirement, Dave’s rediscovered a love of creative writing, publishing commentaries in the Hamilton Spectator and a novel, “ A Potter’s Tale ,” available everywhere on Amazon. His former patients, renamed, altered and unrecognizable, figure prominently in his essays and writing. His second novel, “The Last Immortal,” the next in the Noah series, was published in 2021 by Story Merchant Books, Los Angeles. Much of it is situated in the miracle city of Dubai, a product of his time there.
His Spectator ‘career’ is actually six decades years old. His very earliest writing was as a Westdale High School reporter, back in “the day.”
Last – definitely not least – Dave is the proud father of two, and an even prouder grandpa to two active boys. He and Maureen have been married for over fifty years (they were both eleven). Dave has divided his time among several cities – Hamilton and Toronto, Ontario, Washington DC, Fort Myers Beach, Florida and Dubai, the City of the Future. He and Maureen currently live in Dundas, a perfect little town masquerading as a suburb of Hamilton.
